My New Backbone... and why it wasn't worth the money :(

So, my friends, I've finally gotten a spine. Usually this kind discovery of a much needed part of your anatomy brings about freedom, excitement, elation even. That is, of course, what I expected. I first tried it a few months ago. I told a fantastic friend of mine how much I loved her, and when I say loved her I mean loved her, in the romantic-"I can't control my feelings around you"-kiss-me-please way. She then tells me that, despite our earlier emotions for each other, we cannot date. This is because I am one of her truest friends and she doesn't want to compromise that. Alright, so my backbone failed me this time, but I'm new to using it so maybe it's just a failure on my understanding of my newly acquired backbone.
Earlier this month, something amazing happened. Someone who I'd had emotions for since freshman year and I made out at a party. Totally normal for two horny, single people, right? Not exactly. They had been dropping hints for the past month of things that I now found were aimed at me. To my surprise, the feelings seemed mutual. So I fire up my new spine, call said person, and say "Hey, I feel for you. Is the interest mutual, or should I give up. Please answer honestly." and they respond... "Well, yeah I'm interested, but its too complicated right now. Sorry." Damn. So much for the new spine. It kind of sucks... a lot.
I almost didn't post this, but today I realized how much talking really helps me get through my issues. So, there it is.

P.S. Spine for sale, slightly used but in great condition, please call for pricing information.

This...looks...AWESOME! (Pimpin' some cool sh*t)

So I found this the other day while looking through a blog that I like. It looks fuckin' rad! It's a horror-movie-musical from the director of Saw and actual musicians. The cast list includes Alexa Vega (Hairspray), Paris Hilton (who can actually sing!), Sarah Brightman (Phantom of the Opera), Anthony Stewart Head (Buffy the Vampire Slayer as Giles) and many others including the vocalist for Skinny Puppy and a few opera singers! Joan Jett even makes an appearance. I bought the soundtrack already, which is amazing! So, to you, my friends, I present Repo! The Genetic Opera...

<lj-embed id="2" />

repo-opera.com
Soundtrack at iTunes or notyourparentsopera.com

Oh wow, the Vice Presidential debate!

Last night I stayed up to watch the Vice Presidential debate. I was very impressed with Gov. Sarah Palin. Throughout the entire debate I found her more likable and I think she was more focused on the Vice-Presidential debate. Sen. Joe Biden did a great job tearing down John McCain, but I don't think he brought up anything that made me dislike Palin. Thus, I think I've changed my mind. I wouldn't mind Palin being President, in fact, I would like it a lot. Still, I can't vote so my opinion doesn't matter to the gov't yet. Just thought I'd share my two cents, Your thoughts?

Therapy session with Doctors Toni and Jimmy...

So tonight I had a fantastic therapy session! Originally I was meant to solve Jimmy and Toni's problem, and possibly mine. Toni and Jimmy broke up, and Toni and Jimmy are both sad that they broke up, but they won't go back out. Toni and Jimmy both make each other sad and wish the other would disappear. I thought up a great plan where they would ignore each other and get over each other quickly. So I decided I would call them! I talked to them both and both of them gave me better therapy then I could ever give them. I love them both so much and want to thank them, even though they can't read this post. It's just nice to say it somewhere!

I'm glad we had that conversation, although I dislike the outcome. I don't know why I'm posting this here. I mean, if I really wanted you to see it I could post it somewhere obvious, but I won't. I know it won't change how you feel about me. That would take a miracle and some very, very hard work. Oh well, I'll just trudge on. I should not even feel like this. I told myself that it would all be fine as long as your happy. Oh well, I guess I lied to myself. I am not proud of that or of any of this. I am also not proud that I cannot just shut my mouth and settle for someone who will actually appreciate me and not take the fact that they have me there to save their ass for granted. I am not proud.

So much for perseverance. You'll never change. God, I'm such a loser.
First Day Of School!

So, I guess I started off the school year right. Rachel Anderson and I had to skip out of Mr. Marshall's class 5 min. early to make it to our vocal lessons. Sadly, our plan was thwarted and we were caught! So, we got D-halls (or Extended D-Halls, we haven't actually been issued our punishment) on the first day of school. Hooray for great impressions!
Sam

Atonement...

I just finished watching the movie "Atonement". I cannot say I regret seeing the film. It was lush, well told, sincere and terrible all at once. The visuals were gorgeous. Keira Nightly was lavished in deep, lofty fabrics that draped over her frame for the first 30min. of the film. It was engrossing and well played. Most words with which I can describe the movie technically are things that all movies wish could be said of them.

Why I called it terrible, though, was because of the story. The story was not terrible in the sense of the word today. It was not poorly written nor devoid of life and conflict. It was terrible in the old sense of the word. It tore at my soul. I think I really, deeply want to cry right now. The entire story put stress upon stress and it wore me out to watch, and the worst part was that the ending was neither happy nor hopeful but, in my mind, depressing and an extreme anticlimax for all of the tension that I still feel.

While the story does this to me it also makes me want to live it, albeit with a better ending. I want that conflict, I want to be a tragic hero like Robbie and I want to be a martyr like Cielia. I do not want to be the dying, lonely Talis though, but you'll have to watch the movie to see why. This movie makes me want to go out and live my life so that I don't end up like these people even though they are so romanticized.

Anyway, I whole heartedly recommend this movie to every girl and any guy who has the maturity of someone who is not a high school student. Also, if you do watch it, watch it with someone you can makeout with at the end, or all you'll end up is upset and frustrated, as I am now.

So go, watch it. It's great, but I've warned you. And I apologize for rambling, but I have to put my thoughts somewhere and it's to late to call someone.

My dog, vocal teachers and some art!

Hey everyone!

This week has been pretty fun. It's the last full week of school so finals are underway. Most are pretty easy though. I'm 16 now so I've been showing off my keys. Mom took some pictures of me with my car recently which I'll try to post soon. I also got some great presents: mix cd's, food, and lots of money (which I'll use to pay for all my camps this summer). I've also developed a lovely sinus infection so my voice has been scratchy and dry sounding and I get worn out easily when I sing. It takes a whole lot more breath support to sing when your throat is all crappy :(

Recently my dog began favoring his right leg which had my family and I worried because he has already lost one leg. It turns out that his A.C.L. is torn. This means that my family and I have to watch him like a hawk just in case he decides to make a big jump. In that event we sprint to the rescue and save the poor dog in distress. When watching him one day in the kitchen my mother discovered that my dog fancies opening the cabinet and eating our snack food. We still haven't figured out a simple, unobtrusive way to stop him but as of now we don't let him near the kitchen in between meals.

On another note Ms. Stiles, my vocal teacher, has recently moved to E-town for a job. I have started searching for a new vocal teacher. Ms. Stiles has led me to two possible teachers, both male. Hopefully one of them will work out and I will begin receiving vocal coaching again.

And finally: NEW ART! Yes, ladies and gentlemen, I have finished another piece. I've worked on it every day after my finals. I'm rather proud of it if you haven't noticed. Take caution though, there is some slight violence...

I'm not sure which crop I enjoy more...your thoughts?

Anyway, I hope you all have a wonderful week.

Sam

Friday Night!

Hey all,

I just went and hung out with Courtney, Matt, Stypes and Toni for 4hrs. (give or take). It was extremely fun. We went swimming which was, to say the least, the most interesting swim session I have ever had. We didn't so much swim as talk about everything while soaking. Then we hung out in the sauna and ate pizza, courtesy of the wonderful Stypes.

After that we all went out and hung out downtown. We saw a lot of really beautiful rooftop views of the city and talked some more. Matt and Courtney had some conversation, which Stypes nor I were allowed to hear. Toni and I talked about a lot. We decided that we could never date because we always but heads (in a friendly way) and she decided that I was nigh bipolar and had a very transient (correct use?) personality. That was prompted by the fact that I went from fun-happy-in-a-large-group-Sam to saying that I was worried that Stypes didn't actually like me, and that he just tolerated me because the others do. I wonder if I am bipolar, oh well, medicine sucks.

Finally we headed on over to Pizza Inn to eat with Toni's mom and step-step-dad. It was fun and a great closer to the day. We should definitely hang out more often.

Have a great day,

Sam

Chorus Concert!

Frickin' A! Our chorus concert was awesome! Everything went down with nary a hitch (for the advanced groups at least) and it was so much fun. I also received one of the best compliments ever, mostly because of who it came from. David Morris, and awesome baritone in choir last year who has, sadly, graduated, came up to me and said, nigh word for word, "Great job Sam, your voice has really matured. You sounded really good." I could barely contain my gratitude and excitement. It was wonderful, so, even though you won't read this, thank you so much David. I'm really hyper, so I'm gonna stop typing before I begin to rant. Have a great night,

Sam

"Avenue Q" or "How I Got Lost But Had a Great Time Doing it!"

Hey everyone,

I went to see Avenue Q last night with two friends of mine and one of their mom's. It was hilarious. I don't think there was a moment when I wasn't, at least, snickering to myself, if not laughing out loud. The talent behind the puppets was also amazing. These actors are so well rounded when it comes to their craft. Many of them played two or three people with completely different voices and personalities, sometimes both characters were in the same scene talking to each other. Kelli Sawyer played Kate-Monster, a nasally, squeaky voiced woman of fur, and Lucy the Slut, a sultry "lady" with an eight-pack-a-day voice. It was amazing to see her work, having a conversation with herself that was as believable as that couple having a chat when walking through the park. I never once questioned whether Kate or Lucy were talking.

I have to say, though, that my favorite characters were not even listed in the cast list. They are the Bad Idea Bears, two adorably cute puppets who tempt you into doing something irresponsible. The first time you see them Princeton has just received a check from his parents. He really wants to do something well worth it, like pay his rent or buy groceries. Then the Bad Idea Bears pop up. Paraphrasing heavily, the conversation goes something like this...

Bears: Hey Princeton, we're your friends.
Priceton: Who are you?
B: We're the Bad Idea Bears!
P: Oh, well hello!
B: What's that?
P: Oh this, a check from my parents. I want to save it and do something that I need.
Boy Bear: Why? You've got some money, you should celebrate!
Girl Bear: Yeah, like buy some beer!

(Mind you, these bears sound like four year olds, so its even more hilarious)

BB: Oh, yeah, beer's great.
P: No, I really need it for other things, I shouldn't.
GB: But...but...(begins to sob)
BB: That makes me so sad.
P: No, don't cry I --
GB: We...we just wanted you to be happy (Begins wailing histerically)
BB Begins to wail also.
P: Oh no, I, um, guess I could get a six pack.
GB: (Cheering up) Oh really, YAAAAY!
BB: Why not buy a case!
GB: Oooh yeah, a case!
P: No I shouldn't.
BB: But then you're wasting money.
GB: Yeah, the best investment is buying in bulk.
BB: Yeah.
P: Well all right, I guess I can buy a case. (With new found determination) Yeah, I'm gonna buy a case.
B: (In unison) Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay! Bye Princeton :)
P: Boy, I'm glad to have friends with my bes interest in mind.

Anyway, after the show we tried to walk back to the car. We got terribly lost, were led in three different, conflicting directions, and walked down an alleyway with a crime scene in it. Louisville is a much scarier place after 10pm. Luckily, that crime scene had a cop in it so I felt safer. Still, we had a great time and I really enjoyed it. I can't wait to go back in June, 2009 when... SPRING AWAKENING comes to Louisville. I'm so pumped.

Have a great day everyone,
Sam

Spring Board Training!

Hey all,

I just got back from Key Club's Spring Board Training for District Officers. Oh my gosh, I've never had so much fun in my last two years of life.

Meeting new people is always a rush for me and I didn't know anyone there. It is amazing how well acquainted you become with people in three days, and how you remain friends even though you spend every waking moment with these people. I figured there'd be some people that I really didn't like, but every single person impressed me with kindness, great senses of humor, and a commitment to our cause that I had not seen before.

Not only were these new and exciting people fun to meet but what I learned was fun to experience also. I came back with all the knowledge I would need to be a Lt. Governor for the K-T District. I am still brimming with excitement! It was truly and amazing experience. I can't wait for summer board.

Have a great day,
Sam

Governor's Scholar of the Arts...

Well, I didn't make it in. The plus is that I have been "recognized as showing great potential..." which apparently is a "very great honor..." That's a good thing, certainly. Also, you can call in and ask them how you can improve during May, so I'm definitely going to do that. Honestly I think I'm less upset the my peers and supporters. Ms. Tanguay and my mother seemed rather distraught at the news, but oh well.

On another not so pleasant note, I left my sketchpad (filled with nudes) at school, unattended, overnight. So, either it will end up in the principle's hands or the hands of some filthy horndog. Either way I'm not excited. So I'm going to search for that before I leave for Spring Training tomorrow.

That's all the news for now,
Sam

Wireless Working!

Finally got wireless internet to work on my Vista P.C. Thank goodness! No more restrictive wires! As you can tell, I'm rather excited.
Also, Lynsey and I had a heart to heart with Mrs. Hurley and Ms. Tanguay today. It was pretty cool, we talked about teachers, disappointments and testing out of career development. It sounds boring but it totally wasn't.
Anyways, have a good day everyone,
Sam

Anyways, I'm a high schooler, interested in the arts, and hope to make some kind of career in theater later on in life.

So, what's new with me? Most importantly to me, I started vocal lessons today and felt I made a great breakthrough, although it feels silly. I've begun to "support" myself when I sing. Well, at least I think I have. The thing is, I'm not sure how to do it. One thing I do know is that I no longer squeak out the top notes in "Dancing Through Life" (Wicked). Thus I officially label myself a tenor. Anyway, you singing buffs can help me here, how exactly do you support yourself? Essentially I'm tightening my diaphragm and pushing it outwards, which is my basic understanding of support. I'm not totally off, am I

Second, I tried out for GSA in both the Musical Theater department and the Visual Art department. I doubt I'm getting in to either one, but most sophomores (see Lynsey, I can spell it) don't so I won't be disappointed (although I've said that before and still been thoroughly disappointed). Even if I don't get in it's a learning experience which I am grateful for.

Finally, I'm searching for a summer job. Who is still taking applications in the Frankfort, KY area? Just curious.

Have a wonderful spring break (or week of "not-spring-break") everyone,
Sam
